WWTP Equalization Basin Expansion | Monroe, NC

The City of Monroe identified the need for added WWTP EQ capacity during high intensity rainfall events.  The engineering study identified hurricane Florence as the desired recurrence frequency storm, resulting in a design capacity of 15 MG for a new earthen EQ basin with an associated 24-inch force main and control valve system.

The engineering study and control valve/force main design, which included North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality permitting, was completed while teaming with Hazen and Sawyer engineers to complete the 15 MG earthen EQ basin design and permitting.

The project was bid during a very challenging bid climate, with bids received from 3 qualified contractors ranging from $5,017,000 to $7,260,000. Contract award was to the low bidder, and project construction is nearing completion.
