Indian River Estates Sewer

In early 2018, the residents of Indian River Estates and City of Chesapeake maintenance personnel will begin to see some relief with the problematic sanitary sewer system that has afflicted this community for years.  American Engineering was issued a task order for the design of a new pump station and replacement of the gravity sewer system.

The construction of the new pump station #3 was completed in February of 2016, and immediately the residents started to notice an improvement in their systems.  American Engineering is currently designing the replacement of the aging gravity sewer system that is feeding this pump station.  This project has required many issues to be addressed which include City-owned sewer on private property without easements, portions of the system which lie across city boundaries within the City of Virginia Beach, and the requirement to work around an aging water system that is owned by a private utility company.   Careful coordination between the City of Chesapeake Public Utilities Department, the community’s residents and business owners, the City of Virginia Beach Public Utilities Department, and Aqua Virginia have been integral to the success of this project.

When this project is complete, the neighborhood will have over 3 miles of new gravity sewer main and nearly 80 new manhole structures.  Approximately 350 residents and businesses will have new laterals and clean-outs connecting to the new system along with resurfaced roadways.
