Eastwood Homes | Matthews, NC

Once upon a time, townhomes and multi-family were confined to dense, urban areas near commercial centers. The empty nester, as well as the first-time home buyer, continue to change the products that builders need to supply – and municipalities need to approve. Single-family detached lots with a sizable yard continue to give way to the concept of smaller footprint homes with no yard, and no maintenance.

Eastwood Homes called upon American Engineering for the planning, rezoning and engineering of a suburban infill neighborhood. The town of Matthews had long resisted higher densities, such as townhomes, which were being built in large volumes within the confines of its neighbor city of Charlotte. While Matthews was realizing that they too had to adapt to a changing population, they were not willing to sacrifice quality of design.

American Engineering led a successful rezoning process which was accomplished only through the close collaboration and negotiations between its client, town staff and elected officials. The result was a product that meets the needs of the buyer but will have a distinctly “Matthews Feel.”

The key to American Engineering’s ability to achieve successful planning and rezoning decisions – listen and collaborate.
