American Engineering is actively seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer in our Charlotte, NC office who are eager to be part of a growing engineering firm.

As part of American Engineering, individuals will play a critical role within the design teams, creating solutions for projects within the Transportation sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating the design and development of a variety of civil engineering and land planning projects.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s (or Master’s) degree in Civil Engineering or something similar.
• 15+ years of experience in project management and relevant experience in Transportation related software (AutoCAD, MicroStation / ORD)
• Professional Engineer license
• Demonstrated ability to deliver a completed project
• Ability to communicate effectively both written and spoken
• Experience working with and managing a team
• Strong attention to detail.
• Comfortable working on-site.
• Willing to relocate or commute to the Charlotte area.

American Engineering is looking for Civil Engineers who are ready to accelerate their career. We have a need to support our growing backlog of civil design work related to retail, commercial, and residential land development projects.
Qualifications
• BS in civil engineering or similar degree is required.
• Professional Engineer license (or will be obtaining soon after starting) is highly preferred.
• 5+ years of design experience
• Strong CADD / Civil 3D skills in Civil drafting – road plans, commercial site plans, residential subdivisions, including grading and drainage, utility, and site layout plans.
• Comfortable working on-site.

American Engineering is currently looking for a Survey Party Chief to work with our survey division located in Chesapeake, Virginia. Successful candidates will be required to have a minimum of 3 years experience as a Party Chief.

Primary duties will be leading a one, two or three-person Field Crew completing field surveys by collecting data using GPS equipment, Robotic Total Station or other conventional surveying equipment.

Duties may also include the following:

• Construction Layout as needed. May also need to perform data reduction, field note reduction, cut sheets and/or calculations for layout.
• Will be required to perform manual labor such as cutting and clearing brush and undergrowth for line of sight, digging or shoveling.
• Be able to read and understand deeds, plats, sketches and construction drawings.
• Know basic sources of measurement errors.
• Drive stakes to set grades on construction projects, search for property corners and survey control points.
• Must be experienced in controlling the function of surveying instruments, GPS equipment and calculators.
• Regularly walk, stand, crouch or stoop. Carry equipment up, down and across irregular terrain. Walk over rough, uneven or slippery surfaces.

Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Virginia resident
• Ability to work extended hours including Saturdays and ability for potential travel out of town, possibly for a week at a time.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

We are adding new graduates to our teams in all of our locations. Our new colleagues would typically have a shiny new Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or something similar. New staff will be part of engineering design teams in Transportation, Land Development, or Municipal / Infrastructure Departments.

Not sure exactly what type of civil engineering you want to do? We might be a fit for you. We don’t pigeon-hole our staff, especially new grads. You may get a chance to work on a variety of project types. Too many of the Mega-Big Companies are organized by work type – we stress collaboration and sharing of teammates between all of our departments.

Our most successful incoming employees will embrace the hands-on American Academy training program, have an intellectual curiosity, and ask a lot of questions of the numerous PEs on that team. We have reasonable expectations of our new grads…we assume we are going to have to teach you most everything you will need to know as part of our engineering design teams.
