As a Civil Design Engineer, you will be a part of design teams creating solutions for projects within the Transportation, Land Development, Water Resources and / or Infrastructure sectors. Using AutoCAD and Civil3D, or MicroStation (for transportation projects), the successful candidate will be responsible for creating the design and development of a variety of civil engineering and land planning projects.

Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years experience and proficient in AutoCad / Civil3D.

American Engineering is looking for Civil Engineers who are ready to accelerate their career. We have a need to support our growing backlog of civil design work related to retail, commercial, and residential land development projects.

Our ideal candidate would have 3+ years of design experience, strong CADD / Civil 3D skills. A BS in civil engineering or similar degree is required. PE (or will be obtaining PE) is highly preferred. Experience in Civil drafting – road plans, commercial site plans, residential subdivisions, including grading and drainage, utility, and site layout plans.

Our ideal candidates would have at least 3+ years of water / wastewater experience including but not limited to proficiency in AutoCAD; a BS in civil engineering or similar degree is required.

Candidates must have a Professional Land Surveyor license in Virginia or North Carolina, or able to quickly obtain their PLS in one of those states. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree or certificate in surveying is preferred but not required. Direct project and client management experience – including client coordination, proposal writing, and financial oversight – is preferred, but task management experience with strong leadership skills could also fit the requirements.

We are adding new graduates to our teams in all of our locations. Our new colleagues would typically have a shiny new Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or something similar. New staff will be part of engineering design teams in TransportationLand Development, or Municipal / Infrastructure Departments.

Not sure exactly what type of civil engineering you want to do? We might be a fit for you. We don’t pigeon-hole our staff, especially new grads. You may get a chance to work on a variety of project types. Too many of the Mega-Big Companies are organized by work type – we stress collaboration and sharing of teammates between all of our departments.

Our most successful incoming employees will embrace the hands-on American Academy training program, have an intellectual curiosity, and ask a lot of questions of the numerous PEs on that team. We have reasonable expectations of our new grads…we assume we are going to have to teach you most everything you will need to know as part of our engineering design teams.
