Delivering Good News – Petersburg Water Tank

CITY OF PETERSBURG, VA – 2MGD ELEVATED TANK

The City of Petersburg and the Commonwealth of Virginia have big plans for economic development. To fulfill this vision, the City needs plenty of water and the right pressure to deliver quality to their customers. Federal funding restrictions required construction be completed under a very tight design and construction schedule.  With this tight timeline, Petersburg called upon American Engineering.

The new 2.0 MG composite water storage tank was designed on an undeveloped site.  We assisted the City with modeling the new system so that current and projected demands could be served.  The Casino project currently under construction would not have happened without this tank and new pressure zone.

Similar survey and design projects typically take 18 months to complete. However, based on a compressed time schedule, American Engineering delivered the surveying, subsurface utility exploration (SUE), design, and permitting approval in only 9 months.

Our understanding of the requirements to build tanks resulted in a cost estimate that was $50,000 higher than the winning bid of $7.2 million – ensuring that the City’s precious funding resources were preserved!
